As we are continuing to work on the 50^th anniversary book, we are asking for more pictures from 1971 to present of events of Infant Jesus of Prague. Please bring to father Michael so we can complete and have the book available as soon as possible.

Let us then also follow the magi, let us separate ourselves from our barbarian customs, and make our distance from them great, that we may see Christ, since they too, had they not been far from their own country, would have missed seeing Him. Sunday Before the Nativity of Our Lord

Meditation: How well do you know your spiritual heritage? Genealogies are very important. They give us our roots and help us to understand our heritage. Matthew’s genealogy of Jesus traces his lineage from Abraham, the father of God’s chosen people, through the line of David, King of Israel. Jesus the Messiah is the direct descent of Abraham and David, and the rightful heir to David’s throne. God in his mercy fulfilled his promises to Abraham and to David that he would send a Savior and a King to rule over the house of Israel and to deliver them from their enemies. When Jacob blessed his sons he foretold that Judah would receive the promise of royalty which we see fulfilled in David (Gen. 49:10). We can also see in this blessing a foreshadowing of God’s fulfillment in raising up his anointed King, Jesus the Messiah. Jesus is the fulfillment of all God’s promises. He is the hope not only for the people of the Old Covenant but for all nations as well. He is the Savior of the world. In him we receive adoption into a royal priesthood and holy nation as sons and daughters of the living God (see 1 Peter 1:9). Do you recognize your spiritual genealogy and do you accept God as your Father and Jesus as the sovereign King and Lord of your life?

“Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Messiah and Savior of the world, the hope of Israel and the hope of the nations. Be the ruler of my heart and the king of my home. May there be nothing in my life that is not under your kingship.”

The display will be in the vestibule and a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to our parish.

THIS Sunday, December 12^th, there will be a Penn Ohio Polka Pals & Christmas Luncheon held @ Byzantine at the Grove from 12:00-5:00 pm. Cost is $25.00/person.

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS:

Thank you to all who came out this Saturday to help decorate and prepare our church for the upcoming Christmas season. The church looks beautiful. Again, all families are invited to bring in a Christmas ornament for the family tree in at the entrance of the church.

What has become of gratitude?

Jesus questioned the lack of appreciation of the nine who had been healed. How often have we given or received grati­tude? With the many things we have to do, expressing gratitude may be overlooked. We may put it off and then forget or we may assume the other person knows we are grateful. How many “thank you” notes or phone calls are postponed indefinitely?

Problems and difficulties are part of our lives. There are periods of sorrow when gratitude isn’t experi­enced. But maybe there has been a time of fullness where we felt just great and gratitude came easily. Gratefulness needs to be expressed, for it enriches the giver as well as the receiver. It opens one up to the possibilities and positive values in life.

Amid our daily problems, can we recognize mo­ments of grace and healing? Can we, right now, think of a reason to be grateful? Let us do ourselves and the world a favor by expressing gratitude this day.

On December 12 Oles Cheren & Lyubov Yesyp, dba Cataract Press from Parma will be visiting our parish with a large selections of Slavic (Croation, Polish, Rusyn, Slovak, Slovenian & Ukrainian) merchandise. This will include books, CD’s, DVD’s, embroidery, imported from Ukraine, jewelry. The focus of the display is the Lord’s Nativity and includes Christmas, tree ornaments and carols. The display will be in the vestibule and a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to our parish.

AN ALLEGORICAL INTERPRETATION OF THE GOOD SAMARITAN. ORIGEN: One of the elders wanted to interpret the parable as follows. The man who was going down is Adam. Jerusalem is paradise, and Jericho is the world. The robbers are hostile powers. The priest is the law, the Levite is the prophets, and the Samaritan is Christ. The wounds are disobedience. The beast is the Lord’s body. The pandochium (that is, the stable), which accepts all who wish to enter, is the church. The two denarii mean the Father and the Son. The manager of the stable is the head of the church, to whom its care has been entrusted. The fact that the Samaritan promises he will return represents the Savior’s second coming….

The Samaritan, “who took pity on the man who had fallen among thieves,” is truly a “guardian,” and a closer neighbor than the Law and the Prophets. He showed that he was the man’s neighbor more by deed than by word. According to the passage that says, “Be imitators of me, as I too am of Christ,” it is possible for us to imitate Christ and to pity those who “have fallen among thieves.” We can go to them, bind their wounds, pour in oil and wine, put them on our own animals, and bear their burdens. The Son of God encourages us to do things like this. He is speaking not so much to the teacher of the law as to us and to everyone when he says, “Go and do likewise,” If we do, we will receive eternal life in Christ Jesus, to whom is glory and power for ages of ages. THE REASON JESUS HEALS HER WOMB.

EPHREM THE SYRIAN: “Who touched me? For a power has gone forth from me.” A detail such as this is not reported about our Physician in any other place. This is because in no other place did our Physician encounter an affliction such as this. This affliction was presented to many physicians, yet only one Physician encountered this affliction to heal it. Many physicians encountered and wearied her. Only one encountered her who was able to give her rest from the toil of many physicians. The art of healing encountered a shameful affliction but added pain after pain to it. The more they came, the worse the affliction got. The fringe of the Lord’s cloak touched her and up-rooted this suffering from its root. She perceived within herself that he healed her affliction.

Since the art of healing clothed with all our practical wisdom was reduced to silence, the divinity clothed with garments was proclaimed. He clothed himself in the body and came down to humanity, so that humanity might loot him. He revealed his divinity through signs, so that faith in his humanity alone could not be explained. He revealed his humanity that the higher beings might believe that he was a lower being, and he revealed his divinity so that the lower beings would accept that he was a higher being. He took on a human body so that humanity might be able to attain to divinity, and he revealed his divinity so that his humanity might not be trampled under foot.
