BYZANTINE SOCIAL CLUB CHRISTMAS DINNER:

The annual dinner will be held December 3, 2017 at 5:00 pm at the Holiday Inn in Boardman.  All parishioners are invited. There are three entrees to choose from, each costing $20.00.  A sign-up sheet is on the table in the vestibule. Deadline to respond is November 26, 2017.

Checks could be made to Byzantine Social Club or Stephanie Sheely.

CHRISTMAS KOLACHI AND CHRISTMAS BAKE SALE:

Reserve your Kolachi now!  Sponsored by the Altar & Rosary Society and GCU Lodge 442 Matching Funds Project , Saturday December 16th  and Sunday December 17th following Divine Liturgy will be the annual delicious bake sale.  A sign-up sheet will also be located in the church vestibule. Contributions for other baked desserts are also appreciated.

CHRISTMAS DECORATION:

We will decorate the church for Christmas on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 9:00 am. A light lunch will be provided. There will be a sign-up sheet in the vestibule.  Everyone is invited to come spend a wonderful morning.

St. Nicholas is looking for a maintenance man to care for the church, rectory, cemetery (not mowing the grass) and the Social hall. The job will be paid hourly.  If anyone is interested, please contact Father Michael.

CARPATHO-RUSYN SOCIETY:

On November 19, 2017, the society is sponsoring a movie, “Our Flag Still Waves,” a documentary film on the life of Sergeant Michael Strank, an Veteran born in Slovakia and a Rusyn American Hero.  For more information, contact Mike Vasilchek at 703-508-4226

CONDOLENCES:

This past week our beloved parishioner, Eleanor Timko, has passed on.  Her funeral will be held on, Wednesday, November 8th at 10:00 am.  Blessed repose to Eleanor. Our deepest sympathy is extended to her family and friends.

Our thoughts, sympathy and prayers to Dan Magulick, whose mother recently passed away in Florida.

We would like to sincerely thank Jerry Novak, who also helped with the installation of the lights, but his name was inadvertently omitted.

RAFFLE RESULTS:

Mike graciously donated his $525.00 back to the church fund and Janice donated $50.00.  We would like to thank all who bought/sold tickets. The fundraiser was extremely successful with a profit of $4730.00. Also, a very special thank you to Ed and Michele Straub who organized this fundraiser. May God Bless Mike and Janice, and all of you for your generosity and continued support to our parish.

PARISH NEWS:

A job well-done to all of our high school parishioners who participated in fall programs at Boardman High School: Frank Bero, cross country, Rachael Valko, tennis, Jaden Rivera, soccer, Jill Rivera, band, and Britney and Bobby Jonda, golf. A special congrats to Bobby who participated for the 3rd year at the State competition level.  Boys Golf placed 5th in the state of Ohio.  May God continue to bless these wonderful youths. We are proud of all of you!

SENIOR LUNCHEON:

There will not be a senior luncheon in November and the last luncheon will be held in December.

 

DRIVEWAY LIGHTS:

We would like sincerely thank Tom Lesko, Ken Litwin, Bob Sheely, Joe Sinowski, and Greg Slemons who installed the new driveway lights. We truly appreciate your time and talent! The poles will be painted in the spring.

MAINTENANCE UPDATE:

The parking lots and driveways were recently repaired and sealed for a total cost of $7720.00 by Asphalt Solutions. We also had an electrician install new timers for the parking lot lights. Due to the generosity of all of our parishioners we were able to complete these needed projects.

PILGRIM VOCATION:

Vocations are the result of Christian community. Placing faith and hope in this command of the Lord, all Byzantine Catholic Churches in America began a Pilgrim vocation Icon Program. Whoever signed up to participate in this prayer service, the icon can be found on the vestibule table with the required prayers, so please take accordingly for each respective week.

 

BENEDICTINE SISTERS:

The Benedictine Sisters of Byzantine Church at Queen of Heaven Monastery, Warren, Ohio, are offering a Day of Spirituality in preparation for Christmas on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 1:00-4:30 pm.  It will be held at SS. Make checks payable to Altar Rosary Society by October 8th. Sign-up sheet is in the vestibule. All checks are due by Sunday, October 8th.

This fund raiser will be used for church maintenance.

GCU LODGE 442;The GCU Lodge is sponsoring a community matching funds project to benefit the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.  We are collecting needed items that are listed in the vestibule. The Home office will donate funds equal to the donated items value. Deadline is October 31, 2017.

SOCIAL:Coffee and donut social and GCU 4th quarter meeting will be held Sunday, October 29th following the Liturgy. All are invited!  

CCD REMINDER; All Parishioners are encouraged to attend the weekly education classes, every Tuesday at 6:30 pm, for children and adults of all ages. The classes care held at The Byzantine Center at the Grove.

HURRICANE RELIEF:We would like to thank all who gave lovingly for this cause. The total amount collected was $220.00.  God Bless each and every one!

PILGRIM VOCATION:Vocations are the result of Christian community. Placing faith and hope in this command of the Lord, all Byzantine Catholic Churches in America began a Pilgrim vocation Icon Program. Whoever signed up to participate in this prayer service, the icon can be found on the vestibule table with the required prayers, so please take accordingly for each respective week.

SYMPATHY:Our deepest sympathy to Aaron Graneto, one of our Saturday cantors, whose grandfather, Edward Vrabel, passed away last Sunday. Blessed repose to Edward, and our prayers and thoughts are with him and his family.

HURRICANE RELIEF: The Metropolitan Archeparchy of Pittsburgh is asking all churches to have a special collection the weeks of September 17th and 24th. The funds collected will be used by Catholic Charities USA for aid to those affected from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Please mark your envelope with your name and “Hurricane,” deposit in the collection basket.

LIGHTS: Donations collected in the maintenance fund envelope were used towards new outside lighting. A special thank you to all who donated, and to Ken, Joe and Tom for their help installing exterior lights around the church.

ATTENTION ALL PARISHIONERS: This weekend we begin our new fundraiser campaign. We are selling raffle tickets with the grand prize being $1,000.00, 2nd & 3rd place are $500.00 each. We are asking each family to sell 5 books ($25.00) of tickets. We are doing this fundraiser to raise money for numerous projects needing to be done at the church. We do not know at this time if we will be making pirohy & Kolachi this winter, therefore; we are substituting this fundraiser. If you would like more tickets to sell/buy, because the seller of the winning tickets receives $25.00, please contact Fr. Michael, Paula Slemons or Michelle Straub. FATIMA :Saturday, October 14, 2017 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions of OUR LADY OF FATIMA.  A Procession will begin at 11:15 am from St. Columbia Cathedral making its way to Our Lady of Mt.
